Paraformaldehyde is solid formaldehyde with high formaldehyde content in solid granular form, which is convenient for storage and transportation.

It can become formaldehyde vapor at higher temperature, and it is easy to replace high-concentration formaldehyde to participate in various reactions, which is beneficial to chemical synthesis, pharmaceutical and other chemical synthesis and other industrial applications, especially in the synthesis that requires the use of anhydrous formaldehyde as raw material, a lot of uses.

Application

Paraformaldehyde is mainly used in the following aspects.

(1) Pesticides: synthesis of acetochlor, butachlor and glyphosate, etc.;

(2) Coatings: synthetic high-grade automotive paints;

(3) Resin: synthetic urea-formaldehyde resin, phenolic resin, polyacetal resin, melamine resin, ion exchange resin, etc. and various adhesives;

(4) Papermaking: synthetic paper strengthening agent;

(5) Foundry: sand casting release agent, synthetic foundry adhesive;

(6) Breeding industry: fumigation disinfectant.

(7) Organic raw materials: used for the preparation of pentaerythritol, trimethylolpropane, glycerol, acrylic acid, methyl acrylate, methacrylic acid, N-hydroxymethacrylamide, alkylphenol, methyl vinyl ketone, etc.

(8) Others: medicine and disinfection. Used as sterilant, disinfectant, fumigant. For organic synthesis, pharmaceutical industry.
